Pam Johnson is a cultural leader whose career spans professional dance, arts education, cultural policy and senior public‑sector cultural strategy.
Her early career was as a performer with DV8 Physical Theatre and Phoenix Dance Theatre (1987 – 1998) following which she moved into arts administration and cultural development roles.
She has held a range of leadership positions including the development and delivery of cultural and community education programmes at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) for which, she received a Yorkshire Young Achiever award and a Woman of Achievement Award for her contributions to dance and community dance education.
She joined Arts Council England in 2003 – working across the North in a dance development capacity and became Senior Relationship Manager coordinating strategic partnerships and supporting major cultural organisations in London (2013 – 2019).
Until recently, she was Head of Culture Programmes for Leeds City Council, a cultural development leadership role.
Across her career, Pam has served on numerous Boards and advisory groups including Boy Blue (Chair) and Phoenix Dance Theatre. She was awarded an NSCD Honorary Fellowship in 2022. Pam became a Gary Clarke Company Trustee in April 2024; currently serving as acting Deputy Chair.
